Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

Glow Up

Our IPL Services

Is your skin starting to show signs of aging? Are you tired of trying to cover your age spots? What about those visible veins that started to show up on your legs?

At Bronze & Beauty Bliss we believe that beauty is always skin deep, but we also understand wanting to put your best face forward in all that you do. For many of us, that means treating our skin with the love and care it deserves.

If you agree, you might enjoy Intense Pulsed Light Therapy, otherwise known as IPL or a photofacial.

Quickly gaining more and more popularity, this advanced treatment allows you to even out your complexion and skin texture without having to undergo any painful or invasive surgery. It is relatively quick, painless, and will give you a more radiant and youthful complexion.

How It Works

Proud to offer the best IPL in Portland, Oregon, we’re confident that IPL can have a huge impact not only on how you look, but also on how you feel.

That’s why we’re dedicated to educating more clients on how exactly IPL works and what you can expect from the service.

So, to start, IPL works on a basic level by using light energy generated by a handheld device. The heat generated by this energy works to get rid of unwanted cells (i.e. discolored skin that causes age/sun spots).

Keep in mind IPL is a very precise technique, meaning we don’t damage any of the surrounding tissue. In other words, the light is specifically targeted at those “problem” areas in order to even out skin tone and texture.

With time and multiple sessions of IPL, your skin will slowly start to even out and these sun/age spots will become a thing of the past.

Process

Your First Time

If this is your first time trying IPL, we can’t wait for you to experience how effective this treatment can be!

If you’re nervous, you have nothing to worry about. While the IPL treatment itself can be slightly uncomfortable, similar to how a rubber band snapping against your skin might feel, we’ll do everything in our power to keep you as comfortable as possible throughout.

Plus, keep in mind, the applicator we use for IPL has a cooling feature built into it to further help with any discomfort.

Beyond this, your treatment should be seamless. You’ll be laying down and wearing glasses to protect your eyes. You’ll likely have to undergo at least 4-5 treatments spaced out by 4 weeks in order to achieve the best results. Beyond this, there is little for you to do - your technician and the light energy will do all the work for you.

Before

Prior to your appointment, avoid waxing in the treated area. We also recommend avoiding perfumes, harsh skin care products, makeup, deodorant, and tanning.

During

During your appointment, you’ll be laying down with sunglasses on to protect your eyes. You might feel some slight discomfort, but your technician can adjust accordingly.

After

Your skin may be slightly red after your treatment due to the light energy and may even feel slightly sunburnt. This is totally normal and should subside within 24 hours.

Questions

We Keep You

Informed

We know you care about your skin. It’s why you’re so diligent about researching and understanding any skin treatments you plan to undergo. We respect this, and always do our best to answer our clients’ questions and concerns about any of our treatments.

If you’ve been searching for
IPL skin treatment in Portland, we hope that our FAQ can help give you a better picture of what to expect from this popular treatment. If not, always feel free to reach out with your concerns. We would be happy to discuss them with you.

  • Who is the best candidate for IPL?

If you have any skin discoloration then you are the ideal candidate for IPL. And, luckily, IPL is a non-invasive procedure that carries few risks or side effects, making it suitable for almost anyone who wishes to try it.

Having said that, as with almost any cosmetic procedure or skin treatment, there are always some words of caution that we have to address.

We don’t recommend IPL if you are pregnant, have recently tanned your skin, are generally sensitive to light, have a history of cancer, or struggle with any skin disorders.

In addition, while very uncommon, some side effects of IPL can include scarring, swelling, bleeding, pain, and infection. However, with the capable and skilled hands of the team at Bronze & Beauty Bliss, you can rest assured that you are receiving the best treatment available.

  • When will I see results? Do they last?

In order to see the best results, we usually recommend clients receive at least 4-5 sessions per treatment area. Appointments will be spaced out every 4 weeks in order to give you the best results possible. You should find that with each session your skin’s texture and color improve as the treatment is cumulative with your best results being seen at the end of your treatment sessions.

As for how long the effects of IPL last, this will vary from client to client. In general, we would say that maintenance appointments will likely be necessary every 3-6 months.

Having said that, you may need more or fewer treatments depending on how you treat your skin between appointments. For instance, regularly wearing sunscreen can make a big difference in how often you require IPL treatments in order to maintain your results.

  • What is recovery like from IPL?

IPL is a non-invasive procedure that allows you to achieve youthful skin while skipping on the needles and painful surgeries.

With that in mind, IPL may not be the appointment you want to schedule on your lunch break. While there is no downtime associated with IPL, many of our clients do find that their skin is red and tender after their appointment.

In addition, you may even find that your brown spots appear darker after your treatment. Don’t worry, this is normal. Those spots will peel off within a week or two.

In order to speed up the healing process, we recommend avoiding direct sunlight as much as possible and applying broad-spectrum sunscreen. You will also want to treat your skin delicately using cleansers designed with sensitive skin in mind.

  • Are there alternatives to IPL?

We do our best to make a variety of services available to our clients while never compromising on quality or standard of care.

We added IPL specifically because we found that some clients wanted to treat their skin discoloration, but they weren’t having the results they wanted from their standard facial.

If you’re not interested in IPL, our two best alternatives are microdermabrasion and our range of peels (i.e. enzyme + vitamin C).

With our peels, we remove that top layer of skin, but again, the process does not penetrate as deeply as IPL. In addition, peels can leave your skin just as red as IPL would. In fact, peels might create more redness.
